My thoughts on Ireland after one month!

I've been in Ireland already one month. Time flies. I'm still alive. I didn't have any information about Ireland before I came here. So now I feel that every day is really interesting!! Once you live in Ireland, You’ll come to like it. I love it more and more. Now Im afraid I don’t want to move to any  other country.

I'll introduce you to the surprising things I found in Ireland.

The doors are so cute!

I found many cute doors in Ireland, almost every door is original and colourful! When I found a door that looks very cute I took a photo of it. But now I don’t, because I have already enough.

Do you know why Irish doors are so colourful? Someone told me,

Drunken people often mistake the door of their own house, because all the doors are so similar, they decided to paint the doors in different colours.

There is many busses in Dublin, that scares me!

There are so many busses in Ireland.

Irish train works not so often.

In Dublin, the capital city there are trams, but they are not really useful. That's why there are so many busses. Even in very narrow ways double-decker busses pass through, its interesting for tourists, but I feel so scared. Its so dangerous.

The roads are never dry.

In Ireland, there is no time for the roads to dry. Because, it rains so often during the day! It's not heavy rain like Japan but its really frequent. We can see sunshine, after the rain stops. Therefore we can see rainbows really often. Yeah I saw a rainbow yesterday and today too. I said to stranger  “Hey look there is rainbow!” with a smile,  he smiled back at me. It was a really happy day!

They walk amazingly fast.

Irish people walk very fast. we can easily distinguish dubliners from tourists because they walk really fast.

And they don’t care about the traffic lights, if they find tight space between cars, they cross the road. They do it bravely but I feel scared when doing it.

They walk fast especially when it rains. They change gear to top gear. We should be careful.

It's warmer here than in Tokyo.

I thought that Ireland is really cold. but Its not true. If you dont like cold weather, you should come to Ireland! Its a joke, but I can ride a bicycle without gloves. Its unbelievable, Ireland's latitude is
higher than Tokyo's or even Hokkaido's. It doesn’t snow. But there are strong winds, and the daytime is short.

Green is everywhere!!!

Ireland is surrounded by nature. It rains very often. so grass grows all the year. Almost all souvenirs in the shops are green. Post offices are also green, the Irish flag is green. The symbol of Ireland called the shamrock is also green. In Scotland they prefer to use light blue because its the national colour.
Even though those countries are neighbours, they use two different colours.

Anyway Irish are really friendly.

That is what I want to say. All Irish people are so kind. I feel really happy. His name is Brendan. I didn’t have a home at that time. He invited me to his home. and he took care of me for 4days. And after that he told me that I can come back any time again. That really surprised me.

Now I'm looking for a job, I spread CVs. They don't hire me but they give me advice. For example, “ Do you know that Japanese restaurant?” “What do you want to do?” “You can go to this restaurant” “ you can come in march again”

I like this kind of communication. Do you know that saying “ Ireland is the best country for Hitchhiking” I will try it this summer definitely.

Street musician "The Graftons"

We are "The Graftons"

We are all Japanese. Yesterday is the dawn of our history.

Actually, our music skill is not enough to play for audiences. But we really enjoy music, performing and communication with strangers.

Even on the first day, We got one hardcore fan. She found us at the beginning of our practice session at Saint Stephens' Green. Then she talked to and cheered us (Just kidding!). Surprisingly she came to our first gig at Grafton St too. We were so happy to meet her again!

We want to share our joy of life, fun of music with strangers on a street!

We sang this song!

We are broadcasting today (Sorry it's in Japanese!)

I visit my friend in Loughrea.

I visit my friend in Loughrea.

His name is Brendan.

He hosted me for 4 days. It was really interested days.

I dont have acomodation so far, then he helped me.

He has been in Japan last year for "3 month"!

He loves Japanese an amusement park, especially "Fujikyu"

Loughrea is near by Galway. It takes 3 hours from Dublin by Bus.

It was really good way, I saw big pastures covered beautiful green grass. And there were horse, cattle and sheep. It is that I expected in Ireland. Dublin is busy city, not like Tokyo, but here Dublin is too much for me.

So Loughrea is the city where kind of I like, Not so big city, There are no Japanese people. (I know Chinese are anywhere) There is bakery baking delicious bread every day. There is also good atmosphere pub serving perfect Guinness.

With him, I watched movie named "Castle in the sky" its Japanese very famous one directed by Hayao miyazaki.

He guided me to local old castle. It was amazing, I like ruins something house or others.

At surprise, He said to me " If you need a place to stay you can come here" Its really helpful. I feel so Happy and thank you very much Brendan!

my first couchsurfing "its really awesome"

I hosted couch-surfer onetime at Higashimatsuyama my hometown.

And now I used couchsurfing as a guest. My host is Romanian lady at Dublin.

We met at a cafe near by the place where we stay.

She is awesome, She is very friendly, and very helpful. She prepared my room to live and all of my food, even her work was so busy! Her hospitality is amazing.

I am looking for job. She helped me very much, She lives in Dublin for 2 years, She told me how to get PPS number(for foreigners required to get that before starting work) took care of my next accommodation  and  She knows good shop and restaurant. She invited me to the oldest "fish and chips" shop, and "vegan indian" restaurant.

Both of them were really match for me. I felt Irish traditional food, and vegan food. She knows Im a vegetarian.

At night we drink beer or some other Alcohol little bit together, I enjoyed that too.

The room for me was wonderful,  single room, two beds, table and two chair. But I didn't know that She payed the rooms fee for me. I really surprised that. She said to me " You can stay more". Its good suggestion for me, Because I dont have house to live. But I cant pay 25 euro per night, and I dont wanna her pay for me.

So I moved to Hostel. She is so kind and really helped me much, my first Couch-surfing was awesome. She is shy, so I cant write her name and picture, but I really appreciate her, She learns Japanese, so I can help her anything her need.

Thank you very much.

Japanese & Irish Social Group in Dublin.

Dublin is the capital city of Ireland.
When I walk in Dublin, I meet many people from foreign countries, but I meet just a few Japanese people.

But we who speak Japanese gather every Wednesday at 19:00 in "Yamamori Tengu".

This gathering is called "Japan Ireland Social Group (JISG) ". It's a really important gathering for Japanese People.

Even when it was Christmas, New-year season, over 30 participants came, but normally over 70 people come.

The people who come to JISG very kind and helpful. They taught me about work, accommodations, where I should travel to and recommending movies. I asked them about the referendum which allowed same sex marriages that happened last year.

That gathering is for me great experience. Thank you for accepting me. And I will move to somewhere out of Dublin. So see you again guys ^^

Host mother and Father! Thank you for great experience in Yakushima.

Yakushima is world nature heritage.

My friends parents live there. So I visited them in last October for 6days. I climbed mountain. I rode bicycle around Yakushima, it takes about 100km, I didn't know that Yakushima so big is. It was really steep way, but I enjoyed beautiful nature, sky and mountains. I met deer and monkeys. They are so pretty. Every single day in Yakushima I walk, ride a bicycle and climb mountains, then I got tired evening, but when I get up following morning, I go outside, I feel power of nature. Then I can travel Yakushima again. That was wonderful experience for me.
